Why this stone

Every practice has a symbol. This one is labradorite.

Labradorite catches hidden light. It looks, at first, like a plain grey stone. Then it turns slightly in the hand, and blue and gold flash across the surface from somewhere underneath. The light was always there. You just could not see it until the angle changed.

That is the stone of this work. And it is also, on most days, the experience of the women who come to it.

The threshold

A threshold is the old word for the place between two rooms. The room you just left, and the room you have not yet walked into. The line itself, and the weight the line carries.

Labradorite is the stone of that line. Of the pause between what was and what is not yet. Of the moment a woman is so fully in transition that no single pattern quite describes her anymore. She is not lost. She is catching the light at a new angle.

Brigid, the Threshold
